Pea and bean weevil
Pest Small beetles that nibble neat notches from the leaf edges of peas and beans.
What to look for
U-shaped bites around the edges of leaves on young pea and broad bean plants. It looks worse than it is.
When: April to June.
How to prevent it
- Keep seedlings growing strongly with enough water.
- Cover young plants with fine mesh.
How to deal with it
- Established plants tolerate it, so no treatment is needed.
- Protect small seedlings until they outgrow the damage.
Crops it affects
If you choose to use any treatment, use only products approved for UK home gardens, follow the label and avoid spraying open flowers. See all pests and diseases.
