Raspberry beetle
Pest Small beetles whose larvae spoil raspberries, loganberries and blackberries.
What to look for
Dry, shrivelled patches on the fruit, usually at the stalk end, and tiny pale brown maggots when you pick.
When: June to August.
How to prevent it
- Fork lightly over the soil under canes in winter to expose pupae to birds and frost.
- Grow autumn-fruiting raspberries, as they flower after the beetles have gone.
- Keep plants well watered and spaced.
How to deal with it
- Pick fruit regularly and check for maggots.
- Remove any infested fruit and bin it.
